FOA Certification Levels

Basic Level – CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician)

The CFOT certification serves as the foundation for fiber optics and premises cabling. It validates essential knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required in the field. Most FOA certifications begin with the CFOT before advancing to specialist-level courses.

Specialist Level – CFOS (Certified Fiber Optic Specialist)

After obtaining the CFOT certification, professionals can pursue specialist certifications in specific fiber optic applications and skills. These certifications can be earned through field experience or by completing a specialist course at an FOA-approved school. Keeping a record of field experience is essential for qualification.

When ready, candidates can apply for the CFOS exam in any of the following specialties:
